Battle Lake Watershed Synergy Group (BLWSG)

Battle Lake Watershed Synergy Group (BLWSG)

Introduction

Battle Lake, located approximately 90 km southwest of Edmonton (near Pigeon Lake, Alberta), is the headwaters of the Battle River system. It is a long narrow lake with a drainage basin approximately 23 times the sixe of the lake. Largely forested due to the steep sided valley, this picturesque lake and watershed provides an important habitat for many wildlife species, including the bald eagle. Protection of the Battle Lake watershed from development, in particular the effects of oil and gas development, is a major concern for many residents living in this area.
